About The Collectible Design Pavilion
The "Collectible Design – Asia Edition Pavilion" is an innovative addition to
Fine Art Asia 2024. We foresee a blurring of the lines between design and art, leading to the display of
creations by designers from diverse Asian regions. Dr Grace Lau, the Curator, will elaborate on the
purposes and objectives behind curating this session.
Message from the Curator - Collectible Design Pavilion @Fine Art Asia 2024
Collectible Design refers to contemporary or modern pieces that are sought
after by collectors as well as museums or design centers in around the world. The term "collectible design" first started gaining widespread usage in the 1990s, though
the concept of collecting and valuing functional design objects as art. Over the years, Collectible
Design has emerged as an increasingly popular and handsome approach to collecting and investing. The
value of collectible design is largely based on the designer’s reputation, the item’s condition,
scarcity and exclusivity, artistic and aesthetic values, and its perceived future value as an
investment.
This beautiful Collectible Design Pavilion showcases a selection of outstanding
collectible design items from Hong Kong, Mainland China and cities around Asia. The work on display aims
to celebrate the magnificent blend of great design minds of designers and exquisite skills of artisans,
exemplifying the perfect marriage of design and art in a contemporary context and reflecting relevant
cultures. It is our aim to introduce our friends and partners who have worked so hard and contributed
greatly to this arena. By paying homage to the designers and artisans, we hope to epitomize on the idea
of how collectible design can create a whole new playground for designers and artisans to work more
closely together in Asian cities with such rich culture. It is our desire to also raise awareness for
collectible designs as objects in our everyday lives that allows us to admire and enjoy, as well as to
promote recognition of design as a distinct category within the broader art and collectibles market.
“Collectible Design is a compelling approach for those interested in expanding their investment horizons
to include a totally new category of innovative and visually striking pieces of the time that are also
functional and can truly enhance our everyday living quality.”
